Koenigsegg has kicked off 2022 with a bit of hype for the near future, as they’ve teased a silhouette of an upcoming hypercar that could be unveiled sometime in 2022. It was part of the carmaker’s new year’s resolution announcement, “More ultimate performance through clever engineering and optimal design.”
The silhouette gives us a precious few details – in the front, the subtle bumper lip is distinct from Koenigsegg’s current lineup. The cab-forward styling is typical of a mid-engined sports car, and if you look closely, the teased model has a wraparound windshield too. A smooth, unbroken shoulder line tapers to the rear, ending at the recessed tail lamps.
Koenigsegg didn’t offer any details about the powertrain onboard the upcoming car, but it could be a hybrid, or possibly even an all-electric drivetrain. For reference, in the Gemera, a 400PS/500Nm electric motor is present at the crankshaft, and a pair of 500PS/1000Nm motors power the rear wheels. The total output of the electric motors is 1100PS, and combined with the petrol mill, it makes a mind-numbing 1700PS.

The Gemera’s 15kWh battery may be small, but its 800-volt electric architecture offers charging speeds similar to modern all-electric cars. It allows for an impressive 200kW DC fast charging rate, the same peak charging rate as a BMW i4. With a bigger battery, an all-electric Koenigsegg hypercar doesn’t seem far-fetched.
More details will emerge when the carmaker unveils the teased model sometime around 2022. Currently, the Sweden-based Koenigsegg offers the Regera, Jesko and Gemera hypercars in the global market.
